On November the 21rst all Venetians celebrate the Madonna Della Salute (St. Mary of Health), the most felt religious feast in the city along with the Festa of the Redentore (Redeemer) in July. As every year, thousands of people patiently queue on the votive bridge of barges on the Grand Canal and St. Mark Basin, which allows to reach on foot the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute (St Mary of Health). All Venetians pay tribute to St. Mary asking her to intercede for everybody's health.
The Basilica was built on a narrow finger of land at Punta della Dogana area between the Grand Canal and St. Mark's Basin, visible when entering St. Mark's Square from the water, as an ex voto to St. Mary from all Venetians that were freed by the 2 years pestilence in 1630 and 1631.
The Church of La Salute, with its numerous frescoes and paintings by Titian and Tintoretto, is definitely a gem of Venice really worth visiting at any time of the year.
We at Ca 'Centopietre are in a privileged position near the Salute Church, reachable with a beautiful 15 minutes walk. Moreover our dear guests who want to go to the Feast on November 21, will comfortably avoid the queue on the votive bridge and reach the basilica walking through the nearby calli.
